MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

i now belong to a school! *dances*

all that's left for me to do is enroll in my classes. and if they don't let me, i'm gonna demand my tuition money back and use it to buy a Wii when it comes out. XD

and... HOORAY FOR VIDEO GAMES LIVE!!

they played music from a lot of different video game series... they started out with this funky old school game tribute of sorts. imagine a symphonic orchestra playing out the soundtrack for Pong. O.O it boggles the mind, doesn't it? so it showed like, an evolution of the early games, so from Pong it went into like, Tetris, Duck Hunt, Frogger, Space Invaders, all in chronological order with the orchestra playing the tribute. it was great!

but anyways, after that they started going into the actual concert.  they played the themes from the Metal Gear Solid games (Solid Snake's VA was lurking about, so he greeted everyone at the Hollywood Bowl XD), Civilization, Legend of Zelda (complete with footage from Twilight Princess! i must buy that game when it comes out...), Myst, World of Warcraft, Advent Rising, Sonic the Hedgehog (ahh, one of my first video game loves! the other was Duck Hunt XD)... there were a whole good load of great games that they played out.

and they also randomly pulled out two people from the crowd and made them play video games on the huge, orchestrated, projector screen. the first kid played Space Invaders. he was made to wear a special shirt so that his movements could be tracked, and he pretty much became his spaceship. they gave him a little thing with a button, so he was running all over the stage and shooting, and everyone was yelling and screaming (you know how people get while watching people play these games). he ultimately didn't win any money (every time he shot down the red spaceship at the back, he would get money equal to the points earned for the ship), but he did get a goodie bag and went home happy.
later they got these two girls on stage and made them compete in Frogger. XD once again, people all over the place were yelling, including the host/creator guy on stage. the girl who won (she won with 360 points. go figure) got a computer. a really fast computer, great for playing video games on. :D the little girl that lost got the home version of Frogger. ^_^;;

naturally i expected to hear some Final Fantasy music (Nobuo Uematsu owns as a composer), and... i got my wish! in triple-fold!! XD they played "the best video game music ever composed"... ONE-WINGED ANGEL. and the choir was fantastic... "sephiroth!" GASP GASP GASPAGE, I'M SUCH A GEEK. XD but anyways, they played One-Winged Angel, and as it was going, a whole line of cosplayers came out on stage.  this was the order of entry: X-2 Yuna, X-2 Rikku, Paine, X Rikku, X Yuna, Garnet, a Moogle, two animal looking characters that i didn't recognize from the distance i was sitting at, a black mage (or Vivi, whatever you wish to call it... looked so awesome with the glowing eyes and everything), Aerith, Advent Children Tifa, Kadaj, Advent Children Cloud, and finally... Sephiroth himself.  *faint from geekiness induced excitement* what really would have kicked my ass, though, would have been if Cloud and Sephiroth started fighting (they had their swords!), but they didn't. they at least faced one another and stood in the middle of the stage glaring at each other, so i suppose that was good enough.

my sister was quite disappointed that neither Squall or Rinoa came out, though. and i have to admit, i kinda wanted to hear the Chocobo theme, just because.

later they got one of the original composer people to play a Final Fantasy medley on piano. it sounded so gorgeous, i want it as a music file on my computer!! T_T

i thought that expecting them to play Kingdom Hearts music would be too much to hope for... but they did it anyway. "who here loves Disney? *people cheer* uh-huh, and who here loves Square? *more people cheer*" and then they presented the orchestrated version of Hikari and played the original clips from the featured Disney films of Kingdom Hearts.

Video Games Live has won my eternal love. :D

they ended the concert with the Super Mario theme, presented by the original composer himself (on screen, he wasn't actually there because of TGS), followed by Halo. Tibetan monks! and then right after that, there was a premiere viewing of Halo 3: Finish the Fight. and Cortana's VA was speaking her lines on stage. bloody hell. Halo is seriously the only reason i would ever even consider getting an Xbox or an Xbox 360. i'm really bad at it, but i like it a lot.

so anyways, i went home feeling really very happy and like an ultimate geek... had some serious video game cravings (i miss my Sega Genesis...), so i put in Kingdom Hearts just to fight Sephiroth once. then watched a little bit of Advent Children. XD

what a wonderful way to conclude my summer vacation.

bwaha.
